Page 12 in Two Halfs
Below is a copy of a page from the book "Two Halfs". Just into the future, where love is forbidden and you who are is chosen for you. Life as we know it will change forever or at least the thinking behind life will change. There are agents, zombies, pets, and lands changed by nature and time. Chapter Three:
Waking up to the sound for Popcorn wanting food was normal, but seeing Yellow suits downhill wasn’t. They were scanning nearby trees, the trees were the first things to die once the war started. The air no longer has oxygen, but a mixture that Humans haven’t seen before. The trees don’t release it but use it as a weapon when attacked like being cut down. While standing they release carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Humans have to wear yellow suits while they’re out there.
I hide out of sight, one for them was stupid enough to take a branch off a tree. The tree released green fog, the human turned to the other one and attacked. The tree’s poison works in seconds, turning anything into a Zombie. The new Zombie quickly ate the other three Humans and headed for Glendale. Before getting out for sight, three new Zombie got up and followed their new leader down the mountain. Once they were gone, I gathered our stuff and started heading North again.
This is a good example of how effective it is, and it is probably why it spreads so fast. The deeply cloudy sky was a good sign, the weather was on my side today. From here the climb is easier and I could walk the rest of the way today. From here, I can see gates that mark the first border for the labs. There are four gates before the labs, each marking the security level ahead. The first gate has land mines, second has nuclear landmines, third has guards and landmines, and the fourth gate has the labs with laser guns around its walls.
