White room

I can smell flowers in the air, like I was in the middle of a spring field. I opened my eyes to find myself lying in a hospital bed. I was wearing a large mask on my face that was connected to something behind me, probably an air tank in the wall. There was no window or clock, so I have no idea where I am or what time it is. I was getting an IV of a clear substance, so I tried to move my arms. They felt like they froze stiff, and they won’t move at all.

The door swung open, and a pair of men came in wearing all white. They were shocked to see me, and they smiled and left the room without a word to me. They came back with more people in white. They were carrying clipboards and blue masks. All of them had completely black eyes, just like we feared aliens would have. I didn’t understand what they were saying; it sounded like Greek or ancient Latin.

They left the room, turning off the lights as they left. As I looked at the ceiling, I pretended that star constellations were across the blank panels. I was drifting off to sleep when the overhead lights blinded me. One of the men was standing there was a tray of metal domes, like a hotel would cover food for guests. But something felt off, like my senses were telling me to get up and run. I was right to be afraid.

The first dome was removed to reveal surgical knives; the polished shine was clear as day. I am glad that I passed out and woke up in reality. Dreams like these are rare but unnerving anyway. I am glad that it was just a dream.
