Magic

Magic has a long history in mankind, some good and some bad. People like me who believe that magic is real it enhances the world around me. Telling people about magic is a whole other story. Countries that have freedom of religion walk a thin line between omnipresent and ignorance. As a kid, I remember learning about treating people the same way I want to be treated. In theory, this should cross over into my dreams.

I was floating above my bed in a large bedroom, but it was smaller than a master bedroom. It took a few moments for me to get down, then I heard a meow coming from under the bed. A handsome black cat was there in the adorable loaf position. I was able to pet it while it sat back there. Once I got up, it hopped onto the bed, demanding more pets. I gladly hugged the soft cat; its purrs were so cute.

I got dressed for the day, picking a long summer dress and matching shoes. I don’t remember how I got to a large college building. I also don’t remember how I got into the classroom, which was partly filled with people. I picked a seat near the back middle, so people watched me as I walked by. I am used to this in reality; people have been looking at me since I was eight years old. I sat down and got set up so I could take notes.

Instead of learning something new, the blurry professor told us that we were watching a movie. I put everything away as the film started. I don’t remember a lot about it, but I do remember the people around me were more focused on gossiping about me. I felt a boiling rage rising inside of me, like I was reaching my boiling point. One of the women next to me said under her breath that she was glad that most people like me struggle in life. I turned slowly towards her, and she went from happy to full shock.

I did turn my head without moving my body, but I was not in any pain or strain. After I turned back around, a different woman commented that magic was real. I could see that the movie was leading up to an explosion. I timed hand gestures just right to make it look like I made the explosion happen. A few people around me believed that I did it and were amazed by it. But the first woman was not fooled as easily.

The first woman laughed, and I was tempted to smack them without looking. It took all of my strength to restrain myself from using force. A third woman told the first two to shut up so they could hear the movie. They responded with loud laughter and terrible jokes. The professor finally asked them to quiet down, and they did for a while. I liked the European setting in the movie, so I made a note of it.

The women tried to be quiet with their rude remarks, but they were within earshot. I turned around to the second woman and kindly asked them to stop. She paused and then placed a sticky note on my face. Then I realized that they were children, or at least acting like children. I felt something hit my side, coming from the first woman’s direction. I looked down to see ink soaking into my new, clear shirt.

A normal person would fight at the second they noticed how ruined this shirt was. I am not normal, and I know magic. Some used some of the ink from the shirt, a made a check mark on their hand. All I said was that they were on a list of rude people. Both women freaked out, running out of the room in full panic. No one else moved or did anything but focus on the film in front of us. I woke up wondering where I was, then remembering that I was safe at home.
