Breaking trust in reality

From celebrities to jobs, scams seem to run the world these days. I know that everyone needs money and everyone has something to pay off. With this greed comes the pain and suffering. I have already submitted information with the Federal Trade Commission about all three scams I have dealt with this year. I want to warn others about these scams. I also want to do some reflection on these scams.

It always starts with admiration and curiosity from their side. For example, they like your profile and ask you to apply to the company. Or, they persuade you that they will help make your crazy ideas real. Then they will make you feel like you are a close member of the family or team. They make you trust everything they are saying. If they send pictures, it is to persuade you to stay in touch with them.

The trap

Once you are wrapped around their fingers, they ask you to cash a check or send someone money. The amount of reassurance is unreal and at a maximum in intensity. They really want they’re portion of the money. How do I know that? I don’t, but they do ask you to buy stuff with that strange money. It is at this point when you might make a mistake.

Now, I should have stepped back but they like to rush you. That is the biggest red flag I have to remember. I want to give everyone a chance, but this world is different. They make you believe that you can’t trust anyone else with what is going on. I wish I could be more open, but there is a history of trust issues in my life. I should have questioned everything from the start.

Aftermath

There have been a lot of mental health issues from these scams. It is hard to trust anyone around me. The job market is less a market and more of a bottomless pit. I think that out of 100 job applications, 4 might get back to me. One of those four will be the real job and then they don’t hire you. So why even try, right?

I have to keep trying my best each day. I want these companies to know that they added to the stress in my life. Like thank you for making it harder for me. The world around me is stressful, so let’s add to it. I did have to pay some money because of scams. There are days I wonder if my life is worth living because of the stress in my life.

For instance, the day I am typing this has been rough. I deal with a roller-coaster of mental health. Adulthood is not for the weak. I firmly believe there should be a hitchhiker’s guide to adulthood. Just in case we have questions and we can’t find the answers.

Lesson learned

I have to do so much more research with any job I look at. I have to triple check who I help online. I have to put more walls up to protect my peace and safety. My best advice is to be extremely careful with anything online. I debated with myself about sharing this story. I hope that other people read this and become more aware of how crazy the 21st century truly is.
