Don't Speak

Don’t speak (sleep) 2/17/2026
The song of birds was the first thing I could hear. Then a baby crying made me jump up. As I got closer to the sound, I had a sinking feeling that it was a trap. I saw the words, “don’t speak” painted in what I hope wasn’t blood, on the far wall. I blinked hard a few times before accepting that it was real. I hate getting warnings like this, I am scared easily.
I had to pass the bloody wall in order to see the rest of the ground floor. I could feel each heart beat pounding in my chest. I watched as a bird flew past then poof, just a cloud of feathers. It was singing as it passed by, so I guess it’s dead now. I tried to see if something was with me. I couldn’t see past three meters, so I kept my head up.
A loud crunch sound echoed behind me, like something crashed into a car. I woke up before finding out what was making that sound.
Don’t Speak part 2 (sleep) 2/20/2026:
I was back in front of the written wall. New hands printed were along the bottom. I could eat something chewing and munching on something hard. I was barely breathing, when a loud crash made me jump. A car door flew overhead, straight into the wall behind me. I was about to turn to look at it, but the hair on my neck was on end.
Something was watching me from the dark void just beyond 10 yards from me. I heard a low mumbling sound start to grow into a growl. But I woke up shortly afterwards.
Don’t Speak part 3 (sleep) 2/27/2026:
I was covered in vines and broad leaves. I could hear something eating in the darkness. I want to get up, but I might make too much noise. I decided to stay still and wait to see what happens next. After a few minutes, the chewing stopped and a deep yawn echoed out. I do fear that whatever is out there, is waiting for the right moment to eat me.
I could hear it walk deeper into the darkness, but I will not put my guard down. Once I could no longer hear the creature I carefully got up. I took advantage of a nearby ladder and climbed up into a small tunnel. It was connected to the next room, it was completely empty with a tunnel at the bottom. I didn’t see a way down, so I had to bend over the edge. A monster with a ladder-like antenna, it looked stunned as if it was caught in the act.
I checked for any other weird ladder monster, but it was just that one slowly walking away. By its size, it had to get food almost daily. I found groves that went down one side like a ladder. It was hard to hold onto the cliff edge, but this was the only safe way down. Once I was on the ground, the monster was even bigger than what I thought. I had to make a mad dash to the tunnel before it realised I was snack size.
Once in the tunnel, I caught my breath and calmed down. It tried to reach me, but the creature had short arms. I fell backwards and down a shaft I didn’t check or see. I woke up in a panic, but I was glad to be alive.
